Toyota NS4 Plug-in Hybrid Sedan Concept Signals New Styling Direction

Toyota was one of the few brands that managed to keep one of its Detroit Auto Show debuts under covers until the grand opening and today, the Japanese manufacturer officially revealed the NS4, a sleek looking plug-in hybrid concept. Like many other conceptual studies shown in Detroit, the NS4's role is to preview the future in the areas of styling and technology.
Toyota says that the NS4 concept signals a new styling direction for the brand "aimed at making an emotional connection with consumers". And truth to be said, the NS4 looks far more interesting than any other Toyota sedan – but then again, it's a concept, so it's supposed to look great.
On the outside, the NS4 gets a distinctive trapezoid grille positioned low on the front bumper, slightly pronounced wheel arches, a rakish roofline profile and a lift back design.
The powered swan-wing doors open to a futuristic looking interior with a minimalistic dashboard that sports a large multi-touch screen with the look and feel of a smartphone. Toyota says it has joined forces with technology leaders such as Microsoft, Intel and Salesforce for the development of the interface software.
Jim Lentz, president and chief executive officer of Toyota USA said, "In this digital age, cars are becoming another spoke in the wheel of our electronic connectivity. NS4 demonstrates Toyota's take on the human connection to the car with technology that considers both emotional and rational relationships, person-to-car and car-to-society."
The Japanese brand did not provide any information on the NS4's running gear other than that it features an "advanced" plug-in hybrid drivetrain.
